CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: WORLD ALLIANCE FOR BREASTFEEDING ACTION (WABA)

Jul 22, 2024

It is nearly the start of World Breastfeeding Week – and today, we’re celebrating the organizer as our CHAMPion! The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is a global network of individuals and organizations dedicated to the protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding worldwide.

Formed in 1991, WABA works at the international, regional, national, and community levels to foster a strong and cohesive breastfeeding movement. The network champions breastfeeding by facilitating collaborative efforts in social mobilization, advocacy, information dissemination, and capacity building.

Each year, WABA coordinates and organizes World Breastfeeding Week, a global campaign to raise awareness about breastfeeding, galvanize action on reducing inequities, and enhance collaboration and support for breastfeeding. This year’s theme ‘Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All’ focuses on survival, health, and well-being, highlighting the need to improve breastfeeding support to reduce inequities that exist in communities. Learn more about the theme and how you can take action during the week here.

Thank you, WABA, for your inspiring work to advance breastfeeding equity, create enabling environments for mothers and families, and contribute to a healthy society. We look forward to celebrating World Breastfeeding Week on August 1!
