CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: VALERIE AALO
Valerie Aalo, MPH, CLC, helps to bring comprehensive, high-touch, dyadic care to moms and babies in the first six weeks of life, outside their homes – at the curb! Our newest CHAMPion of the Week is Program Coordinator at Curbside Care, an interdepartmental effort at Boston Medical Center aiming to reduce health inequities by providing care where the patients are.
Valerie brings over six years of experience in maternal health and pediatrics to the Curbside Care program. She previously earned a Master of Public Health Degree at Boston University with a special focus on Maternal and Child Health. Currently, as a birth doula, lactation consultant, and public health professional, Valerie aims to address racial disparities in maternal outcomes by supporting new and soon-to-be parents in receiving the care and resources needed to navigate their journey with confidence.
“So many moms have the intention of breastfeeding when they have their baby, but they face so many barriers to doing so,” shares Valerie. “I really enjoy empowering and guiding moms to achieve their breastfeeding goals whether it be by getting things started in the best way possible or getting back on track when they hit bumps in the road. I want every mom to have the education and resources to make an informed decision on how they want to feed their baby.”
CHEER is thrilled to celebrate Valerie as our CHAMPion of the Week! We are inspired by her innovative and dedicated work to promote maternal-child health equity.
