CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
Congratulations to this week’s CHAMPion of the Week, South Central Regional Medical Center’s Maternal Child Services for achieving Baby-Friendly designation! Although the COVID-19 pandemic was a great challenge in this quest, they overcame it by setting timelines and achieving one goal at a time. As a Baby-Friendly Designated facility, they will now focus on sustaining evidence-based practices, improving awareness, offering more perinatal education to those in their community, and Maternity Quality Performance improvement in Mississippi.
The team said, “The education and support of mothers, rooming-in, skin-to-skin, and training of staff and providers have transformed our workflow and interactions with patients and each other. We feel more cohesive and focused on healthy newborns and mothers. This has resulted in more mothers initiating breastfeeding and more lactation referrals…We recognize CHAMPS for their tremendous guidance. Laura Burnham and Cathy Carothers have been our mentors and encouragers. We appreciate the support of our local WIC office that provides pumps for our mothers and our entire hospital team for their commitment to this achievement.”
