CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: OCH REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
OCH Regional Medical Center is Baby-Friendly! The hospital has been working with CHAMPS since 2015, determined to improve breastfeeding education, resources, and support. OCH Regional was officially designated as a Baby-Friendly facility in May 2024.
Located in Starkville, Mississippi, OCH Regional is dedicated to providing compassionate care to infants, mothers, and families within its community. After joining the MS CHAMPS program in 2015, the hospital faced challenges on its path, including those caused by the pandemic, staffing shortages, and employee turnover. However, the OCH team overcame these hurdles by staying consistent, supporting one another, and remaining committed to education and quality care.
Tamera Brooks, Baby-Friendly lead at OCH, shares: “We could not express in mere words what the guidance from CHAMPS has meant to us at OCH in our Baby-Friendly Process. Our goal is to provide the very best care possible to the families we have the privilege to care for, and our maternity staff is passionate about helping families meet their goals as we nurture their process. We are beyond excited to be designated as a Baby-Friendly hospital, and the guidance and accessibility of the CHAMPS team during our process was like having the presence of a trusted friend to encourage our entire staff along the path to success. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the kind and informative team you have at CHAMPS!”
We look forward to continuing to work with OCH Regional on sustainability and quality improvement work. Many congratulations to our CHAMPion of the Week!
