CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: NICOLLE HEISSERER, IBCLC, BA
Meet a member of our CHAMPS National team and this week’s CHAMPion: Nicolle Heisserer! Passionate about breastfeeding and maternal support, Nicole is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) and a Project Manager for CHAMPS’ work with hospitals in Guam and the Pacific Islands.
Nicolle brings a background in sociology and neuropsychology and previously worked in research and clinical trials before pivoting her focus. As a young new mother, Nicolle experienced firsthand the importance of antenatal support. She became a breastfeeding peer counselor with La Leche League International, and later earned her accreditation as an IBCLC. Motherhood has also led Niccolle to explore new skills with babywearing and, specifically, wrapping.
“Breastfeeding may be ‘natural,’ but it often isn’t easy. I’ve worked with many parents who struggled on their journey without adequate support,” shares Nicolle. “Helping families access the support they need to successfully reach their breastfeeding goals is so vital to improving breastfeeding experiences and healthy outcomes.”
Nicolle currently resides on the island of Guam where she is a member of the Breastfeeding Action Team working to improve community access to breastfeeding information and support. We are thrilled to have her on the CHAMPS team and celebrate Nicolle as our CHAMPion of the Week!
