CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: METHODIST OLIVE BRANCH HOSPITAL

May 25, 2025

Congratulations to Methodist Olive Branch, CHEER’s CHAMPion of the Week! After five years of dedication and quality improvement work, the hospital was re-designated as Baby-Friendly.

Located in Olive Branch, Mississippi, Methodist Olive Branch takes pride in offering quality, patient-centered care for women’s health needs. The hospital joined MS CHAMPS in 2015, determined to improve breastfeeding education, resources, and support. Methodist Olive Branch was designated as a Baby-Friendly facility in December 2019 and officially re-designated earlier this month.

“BFUSA designation means that our team is here to serve the women in our community,” shares Lakisha King-Windle, RN, BSN, IBCLC, RLC, Lactation Consultant, Labor & Delivery at Methodist Olive Branch. “We are going to promote and foster breastfeeding. We are here to support parents as they bond and care for their newborns. It’s part of who we are. Part of our core values.”

Lakisha spearheaded staff refresher training and preparation for the assessment, developing Baby-Friendly Knowledge Folders with study aids, setting up a Baby-Friendly Bulletin Board for their breakroom, and distributing goodie bags. She also made knowledge packs for patients to review upon admission and worked with the prenatal clinic on prenatal preparation and education.

CHEER congratulates Methodist Olive Branch on this well-deserved accomplishment! It is inspiring to see the hospital create a lasting impact in their community.
