CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: LUNA GROENEWOLD
Mirre “Luna” Groenewold’s dedication to maternal and infant health shines through every part of her work, making her a truly deserving CHAMPion of the Week. As a Field Manager with the CHEER International Group (CHEERing) and a European Solidarity Corps Volunteer, Luna became an essential part of our on-the-ground efforts, supporting families in Athens with compassion, skill, and commitment.
Week after week, Luna worked closely with mothers and children, creating a safe and welcoming space where families could share their experiences and receive care. “I mostly enjoyed seeing the happy faces of mothers and children who see us every week, knowing they have time to share their concerns and that I can help them with the small and big problems they face,” she shares. “Mostly just being able to make someone’s day a little better and bring them some hope.”
Luna holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and brings extensive international experience to her work. Her journey has taken her from serving at a children’s hospital in Peru to working in a maternity ward in Tanzania to leading a women’s sports program in Zanzibar. Since 2018, Luna has collaborated with NGOs in Greece and completed an internship with Youth Healthcare Services in the Netherlands, where she focused on promoting child and adolescent health.
With her hands-on care, empathy, and global perspective, Luna embodies the spirit of CHEERing, uplifting families and strengthening communities every day. CHEER is grateful for her contributions and proud to celebrate Luna as our CHAMPion of the Week!
