CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: LAUREN FRUEHAN, IBCLC

Feb 24, 2025

Lauren Fruehan, IBCLC, Lactation Services and Perinatal Navigator at Waterbury Hospital, has dedicated over 13 years to supporting infant feeding and maternal health. Her journey into lactation began after a difficult breastfeeding experience with her first child, where she received little support. This experience ignited her passion for helping families navigate their own feeding journeys.

Over the years, Lauren has served as a peer supporter, Breastfeeding Counselor with Breastfeeding USA, Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative committee member, and breastfeeding educator. Additionally, she worked as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC) in private practice, where she saw firsthand how the earliest days of lactation can shape long-term breastfeeding success.

At CHAMPS National facility Waterbury Hospital in Connecticut, Lauren provides comprehensive lactation care while advocating for health equity as a member of the hospital’s Health Equity Committee. She is committed to ensuring all families receive the support and resources they need during the critical postpartum period.

“The most rewarding thing about my work is helping families enter their role as parents,” shares Lauren. “Newborn feeding is one of the most powerful bonding tools in the family, and how we treat parents in this role can often be healing of a less-than-ideal birth experience and can empower them as parents.”

CHEER is proud to highlight Lauren Fruehan’s dedication to maternal and child health and recognize her as our CHAMPion of the Week!
