Greenwood Leflore Hospital received their Baby-Friendly designation in October 2021. As a part of that journey, they began examining hospital practices related to breastfeeding employees. According to Dr. Melynda Noble of the Baby-Friendly leadership team, “As we were in the Baby-Friendly process, we began thinking about our own employees. We realized we are here encouraging women to breastfeed, but we didn’t have accommodations right here in our facility for our own employees!” Dr. Noble said the process for implementing simple accommodations, including creating an employee lactation room and implementing an employee lactation policy, was much easier than they had anticipated thanks to administration buy-in and support.
