CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: DIAN TERRY, BSN, RN

Sep 29, 2025

Dian Terry, BSN, RN, is the Women’s and Children’s Director at Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center, where she brings over 20 years of experience in maternal and child health. With 13 years of leadership experience, Dian oversees a team of more than 90 staff across inpatient units, driving improvements in safety, equity, and quality of care for birthing people and infants.

Dian has led significant initiatives to enhance breastfeeding support and reduce disparities in care. In 2023, her facility achieved the Gift Re-Designation and Safe Birth Designation under her guidance, recognizing their alignment with the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. Dian also championed the use of disaggregated data to identify racial disparities in breastfeeding rates and led targeted interventions to address them, including WIC education partnerships and expanded staff training.

Dian’s team joined the CHAMPS National program to build on these efforts. They hosted a successful CHAMPS site visit in June 2025, which included hands-on training and collaborative planning sessions, highlighting the hospital’s deep commitment to improving health outcomes for families across northeast Louisiana.

Dian shares, “Breastfeeding is a powerful first step in giving your baby the best start in life. It’s the foundation for a thriving future.” She adds, “What I enjoy most about my work is seeing the tangible difference it makes in the lives of patients who might otherwise fall through the cracks, and knowing we are creating a healthier future for the next generation.”

CHEER is proud to celebrate Dian as our CHAMPion of the Week for her equity-focused leadership and unwavering dedication to maternal and infant health.
