CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: REGIONAL ONE HEALTH

Jul 13, 2015

Congratulations to our first Hospital CHAMPion, Regional One Health! With 3953 births per year, and a level 3 NICU with 69 beds, Regional One, Memphis, TN, is one of the largest hospitals currently enrolled in the CHAMPS Initiative. Regional One joined CHAMPS on March 2nd, 2015, and recently moved into the discovery stage on the Baby-Friendly Pathway!
In May, Regional One hosted a Train the Trainer session on the Baby-Friendly-required competencies with CHAMPS educators Emily Taylor, MPH, and Kim Bugg, FNP-BC, MSN, and 100% of participants completed the follow-up work within one month, an incredible accomplishment.
The Train the Trainers program requires 4-5 hours of skills practice, including watching videos, practicing on models, and finally practicing each skill with a live mother-baby couplet, observed by a preceptor. After these hours are complete, the participant is approved as having completed their requirement for skills’ training by Baby-Friendly USA, and are prepared to precept other nurses. Regional One managed to train 32 preceptors within one month.
Congratulations, Regional One, you are truly CHAMPions!
