CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: JENNIFER WHITE!

Aug 11, 2015

This week’s CHAMPion is Jennifer White, RN, IBCLC, RLC, who is leading the Baby-Friendly effort as an IBCLC for Children’s Hospital of San Antonio in both the Women’s Services Area as well as the level IV, 45-bed NICU. Jennifer went to Nursing School where she now lives, in San Antonio TX, and has been a Registered Nurse for 20 years. Jennifer’s passion is “to improve breastfeeding practices at our hospital by educating our staff, families, and physicians.” Jennifer hopes that “by doing this, we will promote proper breastfeeding practices for all our mothers to improve outcomes for our families that we serve.”
When Jennifer is not working, she loves to spend time with her children and with her family. Jennifer has been married for 21 years and has two daughters, one a sophomore at Texas State University and one a freshman in high school. They love to travel to the beach together in Texas and in Florida whenever they get the chance.
Jennifer feels like the biggest accomplishment her hospital has made thus far working with CHAMPS is that they have taken the first step on the pathway to become a Baby-Friendly Hospital. “I’m appreciative of the networking and the encouragement we have received from the very beginning of teaming up with CHAMPS. It was the catalyst that we needed to get things moving forward with our Baby Friendly Initiative.” Jennifer thinks that the most helpful thing to her hospital was “participating in a mock survey on another campus. It was amazing to see how well they did and to really understand how everything will fall in place as we move forward with our facility’s education and training.” Now, as CHAMPS begins to grow, Jennifer hopes that CHAMPS will continue to support her hospital as they educate staff and improve their breastfeeding practices for all mothers, regardless of culture or race
