CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: ARLANDA BRANTLEY
Building stronger, healthier communities starts with dedicated advocates like Arlanda Brantley. As a community partner with Waterbury Bridge to Success, Arlanda is deeply committed to advancing Black maternal health in the Waterbury, Connecticut, community. Her work is grounded in awareness, education, and meaningful support, ensuring birthing people and families have the resources they need to thrive.
Arlanda is passionate about the power of education and advocacy in maternal health and breastfeeding. She shares, “Maternal health and breastfeeding work is about impact, legacy, equity, access, survival, and feeding the baby.” Arlanda believes that providing accurate information and trusted resources empowers birthing people to make informed decisions and strengthens families in the process.
Through community engagement, Arlanda creates spaces for pregnant moms to participate, learn, and share their voices, including through breastfeeding surveys and outreach efforts. She finds joy in empowering and equipping others with knowledge, fostering confidence, and encouraging advocacy at both the individual and community levels.
