CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: JAIME UNSER

Mar 2, 2026

Meet Jaime Unser, a breastfeeding advocate and dedicated Breastfeeding Peer Counselor with the Tennessee Department of Health’s Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Every day, Jaime supports mothers across Tennessee as they navigate their breastfeeding journeys, helping them make informed feeding decisions, overcome challenges, and connect with local resources that promote maternal and infant health.

Jaime brings a blend of professional expertise and empathy to her work. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business and a background in customer service and schedule analysis — skills that enhance her ability to listen closely, problem-solve creatively, and meet families where they are. Her commitment to serving others extends far beyond her role, as she has volunteered through her church, schools, and pregnancy centers, guided by a deep-rooted desire to uplift her community.

Jaime’s passion for breastfeeding support is personal. She breastfed each of her four children for durations ranging from six months to two years, with the encouragement of her husband and mother. She draws from those experiences to bring compassion, understanding, and insight to the families she supports. As a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, Jaime considers it a privilege to walk alongside mothers as they work toward their individual breastfeeding goals.

What Jaime values most about her work is the human connection. She finds joy in celebrating breastfeeding victories, big and small, and feels honored to sit with mothers in moments of disappointment or grief when their journeys unfold differently than hoped. “Sometimes, as mothers, we just need to be reminded that we matter, our experience is normal, and we are not alone,” she shares.

For Jaime, breastfeeding is “a beautiful dance between mother and baby that engages body, mind, and spirit.” She hopes that every mother receives the encouragement and support she deserves, and that society continues to recognize both breastfeeding and pumping as vital, valued parts of the maternal experience.

CHEER is proud to honor Jaime Unser as our CHAMPion of the Week for her heartfelt dedication to maternal-child health, her advocacy for breastfeeding families, and the compassion she brings to every mother she serves.
