CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: LILIANA BURKE, MPH, CLC

Sep 7, 2025

Liliana Burke, MPH, CLC, is a Certified Lactation Counselor and Nutritionist with the Center for Women and Newborns at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, MA, where she supports and empowers Spanish-speaking families through inpatient and ambulatory lactation services. As a member of the Pediatric Newborn Medicine Team, Liliana is passionate about ensuring equitable access to breastfeeding support for all families.

Originally from San Salvador, El Salvador, Liliana studied nutrition and dietetics before earning a full scholarship from the Organization of American States to pursue her master’s in public health in Santiago, Chile. Her early work as a Prenatal Nutritionist revealed a clear gap in breastfeeding education, particularly for Spanish-speaking patients, sparking her journey to become a CLC and advocate for inclusive lactation care.

Liliana now utilizes her training and cultural expertise to provide step-by-step guidance in Spanish, empowering families to succeed in their breastfeeding journey from the outset. She shares, “What I enjoy the most is knowing that I’m making a difference in Spanish-speaking families’ lives by providing breastfeeding information in their native language and empowering them to succeed.” She adds, “Breastfeeding is of utmost importance for all babies, and I’m happy to provide support every step of the way. This work is vital to the health and well-being of families.”

CHEER is proud to recognize Liliana Burke as our CHAMPion of the Week for her compassionate, equity-driven work in maternal and child health.
