CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: ANGIE S. JERRY, BS, CLC, IBCLC

Aug 3, 2025

Angie S. Jerry, BS, CLC, IBCLC, is a dedicated lactation professional and passionate advocate for breastfeeding support in rural communities. As a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Supervisor for the state of Louisiana, Angie leads efforts to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration by providing education, encouragement, and personalized support to pregnant and breastfeeding families.

Angie began her journey with the WIC Peer Counseling Program in 2012 when her second child was just nine months old. Since assuming a supervisory role in 2016, she has become a vital mentor to peer counselors across the state, answering questions, offering guidance, and fostering collaborative and supportive growth. Angie takes pride in supporting both the families she serves and the dedicated counselors she works alongside, creating a ripple effect of encouragement and empowerment throughout the community.

Living and working in a very rural area of Louisiana, Angie has seen firsthand the barriers that many families face when it comes to breastfeeding. In regions where rates have historically been low, she and her team focus on both initiating breastfeeding and helping families reach their long-term feeding goals. Angie believes that modeling and visibility matter—one of her most meaningful experiences was being able to bring her third child to work until he was six months old, offering a powerful example of breastfeeding as the norm within the clinic setting.

Angie shares, “What drives me most is connecting with families, learning about their goals, and helping them find ways to make breastfeeding work for their unique situations. It’s an honor to do this work.”

CHEER is proud to honor Angie as our CHAMPion of the Week for her leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to uplifting families and peer counselors across Louisiana through culturally responsive and compassionate breastfeeding support.
