CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: MELISSA ROBEY

Jun 30, 2025

Melissa Robey, MD, FAAFP, NABBLM-C, IBCLC, DipABLM, is a dedicated Family Medicine physician with a passion for supporting families through pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and parenting. Triple-board certified in Family Medicine, Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Robey brings a holistic and patient-centered approach as a Faculty Physician at Hilo Benioff Medical Center.

Dr. Robey earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Florida and completed her residency training at PeaceHealth Southwest Washington in the Pacific Northwest. Now based in Hawai’i, Dr. Robey practices full-scope Family Medicine, including surgical obstetrics and inpatient medicine, as a faculty member at the Hawai’i Island Family Medicine Residency Program at Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where she is honored to help train the next generation of Family Physicians. She also serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM).

Dr. Robey is especially committed to addressing the historical gap in physician education on breastfeeding and maternal-child health. She empowers resident physicians and medical students to provide confident, compassionate, and evidence-based support to families. Her work ensures that future doctors are prepared to deliver full-spectrum care that centers on the needs of parents and babies.

When asked what she enjoys most about her work, Dr. Robey shared, “Witnessing the growth and development of resident physicians and medical students as they learn to confidently support families with breastfeeding and maternal and child health is incredibly rewarding. Addressing the historical gap in physician training in this crucial area and empowering future doctors to provide excellent full-spectrum care is a true passion.”

Outside of her clinical and academic work, Dr. Robey enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two young children.

CHEER is inspired by Dr. Melissa Robey’s commitment to compassionate care, clinical excellence, and the future of maternal and child health. We are thrilled to recognize her as our CHAMPion of the Week!
