CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: MYRTLE ROBERTSON AND JESSICA MEJIA

Feb 10, 2025

Myrtle Robertson and Jessica Mejia are CHEER’s newest CHAMPions of the Week! As dedicated Lactation Consultants at NewYork-Presbyterian/Allen Hospital in New York City, they share a passion for supporting mothers and promoting breastfeeding.

Myrtle Robertson, BSN, RNC-OB, IBCLC, RLC, AHA Certified Instructor, brings over 20 years of experience as an NYS licensed registered nurse specializing in Maternal Child Health. A New York native, she began her nursing career in 1998 before becoming an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant in 2004. For the past eight years, Myrtle has served as a full-time Lactation Consultant, contributing her expertise to hospitals across New York City and helping institutions achieve Baby-Friendly Designation status. “I love the opportunity to constantly learn and solve lactation issues,” Myrtle shares. “It’s rewarding to make a tangible impact on patients while collaborating with specialists to achieve shared goals.”

Jessica Mejia, RN, joined NewYork-Presbyterian in 2013 as a new graduate, driven by her passion for women’s health. Throughout her career, she has worked as both a Mother/Baby nurse and a Labor and Delivery nurse, providing compassionate care to mothers and their infants. Most recently, Jessica embraced the role of Lactation Consultant, combining her personal breastfeeding experiences with her professional expertise to guide new mothers on their breastfeeding journeys. “Supporting mothers and infants through this special time is incredibly fulfilling,” Jessica says.

CHEER is inspired by Myrtle and Jessica’s dedication to promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding through leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration. We are honored to recognize them as our CHAMPions of the Week!
