CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: CANDICE DEMOSS, BSN-RN, IBCLC

Jan 13, 2025

Candice DeMoss is a dedicated leader in lactation support at CHAMPS National facility Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center, and a newly-certified IBCLC! Our newest CHAMPion has over 14 years of nursing experience and an unwavering commitment to improving maternity care and breastfeeding education.

Candice joined Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center in July 2022, following more than a decade of work in the Nursery and Level II NICU. Her deep passion for breastfeeding—rooted in her own journey of nursing her children—drove her to pursue her lactation consultant certification, which she proudly achieved in September 2024.

When the hospital’s previous IBCLC transitioned roles, Candice stepped up to meet the need, becoming the sole IBCLC at Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center. In this role, she has spearheaded various lactation initiatives, playing a vital part in advancing CHAMPS National goals and improving breastfeeding support for mothers and families.

Candice finds fulfillment in guiding mothers through their breastfeeding journeys, whether they choose to nurse or pump. “It is extremely rewarding helping mothers breastfeed or pump for the first time and seeing the fruits of their labor,” Candice shares. “Breastfeeding is one of the most rewarding things a mom can do for herself, providing all the rich nutrients for her child and creating a special bond with her baby.”

Candice is committed to improving exclusive breastfeeding rates at her hospital and empowering mothers with the tools and support they need for success. Her work is a testament to her dedication to maternal and child health.
