CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: JENNIFER USTIANOV, MS, BSN, RN

Aug 11, 2024

The CHAMPS National Virtual Breastfeeding Conference is coming up on September 17! Over the next few weeks, we’re celebrating the knowledgeable and passionate speakers as our CHAMPions of the Week.

Today’s CHAMPion Speaker is Jennifer Ustianov, MS, BSN, RN. Jennifer’s vast experience in maternal-child health spans over three decades! She is currently a consultant for CHAMPS National, leading the program’s Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and hospital coaching.

Jennifer’s background in maternal-child nursing prompted a keen focus on improving outcomes for pregnant and postpartum people, their infants, and their families. This focus created a passion for Improvement Science, safe and respectful teamwork, and the inclusion and uplifting of the voices and perspectives from across all systems. Jennifer has dedicated her career to promoting equitable access to optimal healthcare and providing ongoing support and resources needed to establish sustained well-being.

Over the past 20+ years, Jennifer has led and supported international, national, regional, statewide, and local projects focused on improving breastfeeding rates, healthcare and the systems that impact maternal and infant mortality and morbidity, and other healthcare and systems gaps that impact maternal-child health outcomes. These experiences have provided her with extensive knowledge in QI methodologies, teamwork strategies, patient safety, and system re-design.

Jennifer shares: “It is a distinct honor to work with the CHAMP National Team. This program is bringing together many dedicated people, across the county, who have been working to change the culture of breastfeeding nationally and at state and local levels. We have seen the impact of that dedication and yet we have so much more to do.”

“CHAMPS National’s focus on improving exclusive breastfeeding is a critical contributor to the health and welfare of mothers and infants. Additionally, the program’s keen focus on breastfeeding disparities will provoke action as we address the long-standing challenges of ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care for every member of the communities we serve. I am excited for the potential of this program and its impact on healthcare practices that support pregnant and postpartum people and newborns.”

Thank you, Jennifer, for bringing your knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to CHAMPS! We look forward to Jennifer’s CHAMPS National training session ‘QI for Busy Professionals’ at the conference in September.
