CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: REBECCA KNAPP, MPH, RN, IBCLC
Today’s CHAMPion of the Week doubles as a staff spotlight! Introducing Becky Knapp, MPH, RN, IBCLC, CHEER’s new team member and CHAMPS National coach.
Becky has been a maternal-child health nurse for 18 years. Since the start of her career, she has been driven to support moms, babies, and their families during the prenatal and postpartum period. Becky’s passion quickly became promoting and protecting breastfeeding, in particular addressing socioeconomic and racial inequities that can so often complicate the breastfeeding journey. This has guided her work across the country as a postpartum, nursery, and antepartum nurse and lactation consultant in hospitals and the community. Additionally, Becky has worked on research teams looking at best practices to address inequities in maternity care.
Becky began working with CHEER after completing her Master of Public Health (MPH) in Boston, MA, about ten years ago. CHEER is thrilled she has officially rejoined the team as a coach for our new CHAMPS National project.
“I’m so happy to be working with CHAMPS again. This work is so important and I love being able to support hospitals on the journey to improve adherence to the Ten Steps (to Successful Breastfeeding).” Becky says, “Even when it seems to be difficult to move the needle, we have to continue to focus on the reason we do this. To me, it will always be each and every mom and baby that we serve.”
Welcome (back) to the team, Becky. We are happy to celebrate you as our CHAMPion of the Week.
