CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: CHIKA NWAKA, MSC, BSC
Introducing Chika Nwaka, our CHAMPion of the Week and Team Lead at the Center for Health Equity, Education, and Research International Group (CHEERing)! Chika came to CHEERing through the Swiss European Voluntary Service Corps, a program offering young adults the opportunity to volunteer abroad, develop new skills, and gain intercultural experience. From Switzerland and Nigeria, she holds an MSc in Global Health & Development from the University College London and a BSc in Biology and Psychology from the University of Toronto.
Chika is hugely passionate about maternal-child and mental health and brings skills and experience from a diversity of NGOs, including the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières (or Doctors Without Borders). She currently helps to manage CHEERing’s iron deficiency anemia program, grow clinics, health screenings, and grant applications. Chika plans to continue a career advocating for the health and well-being of the most vulnerable.
“It has been a privilege to work with and learn from such a passionate, knowledgeable, and diverse group of people who share a commitment to health and social justice for everyone, no matter their walk of life,” shares Chika. “From the other staff and volunteers to the communities we work with, everyone has contributed to making this such an enriching experience, and I will treasure the rest of the time that I get to spend doing this work!”
We’re grateful for you, Chika!
