CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: CHARLESTON AREA MEDICAL CENTER
West Virginia has one of the lowest rates of breastfeeding in the nation. The team at Charleston Area Medical Center, one of CHAMPS National’s newly enrolled hospitals, is working to change this.
Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) was one of the first ten sites to enroll in CHAMPS National, CHEER’s new nationwide program to increase exclusive breastfeeding rates and decrease racial disparities. The passionate team, led by pediatric newborn hospitalist Dr. Elizabeth Copenhaver, jumped straight into work! They immediately created a strategy for publicizing CHAMPS National to their community. Check out this article on the front page of the newspaper Charleston Gazette, and an interview with Dr. Copenhaver on the local news.
We’re excited to work with CAMC to train healthcare staff, improve maternal-child health practices, and support mothers and babies in West Virginia. CHEER is thrilled to celebrate the enthusiastic team as our CHAMPion of the Week!
