CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: JAMILAH CHANNEL
Our newest CHAMPion of the Week is dedicated to ensuring no mother feels alone during the birthing process. Jamilah Channel, DONA-trained and Commonsense Childbirth Institute certified Birth Doula and founder of Naima’s Love, provides invaluable support as a birth and postpartum Doula and breastfeeding advocate.
Jamilah is a passionate professional with a degree in Psychology from Bethune Cookman University. She has been a Doula since 2017 and has extended her expertise as a traveling Doula across the southeastern region. In 2018, Jamilah founded Naima’s Love, a community-based organization providing birth and postpartum doula services, childbirth education, breastfeeding and lactation support, and community baby showers for expecting families in need.
Additionally, Jamilah serves as the Lead Research Family Navigator at the University of Alabama, where her primary focus lies in exploring the many benefits of having a Doula. Beyond her Doula roles, she is trained in neo-hearing screenings, further enriching her dedication to holistic and inclusive maternal care.
“Breastfeeding is a powerful foundational act that can help to change the physical and mental health of a developing infant and a healing birthing person for the rest of their lives,” shares Jamilah. “When we realize how beneficial every drop of human milk is, we will do more to encourage and support the lactating person’s milk production and the infant’s consumption by granting access to Birth and Postpartum Doulas, Lactation Specialists and Breastfeeding Counselors, and advocates to every person who accepts the calling to bring a new human into our beautiful world.”
Jamilah’s unwavering passion for maternal health is inspiring! CHEER is honored to celebrate Jamilah as our CHAMPion of the Week.
