MERIT HEALTH WOMAN’S HOSPITAL

This week CHAMPS features Merit Health Woman’s Hospital in Jackson, MS in recognition of their hospital-wide support for breastfeeding employees. Merit Health Woman’s Hospital became designated as Baby-Friendly in October 2018, and according to Renee Simpson, RN, IBCLC, the hospital’s Baby-Friendly lead, breastfeeding support is simply a reflection of the overall company culture of support for breastfeeding at Woman’s, where they provide a multi-purpose room for milk expression. “Everyone knows that we support not only patients but also our own employees who are breastfeeding. We help each other out and everyone is good about covering for one another when they need to express milk. When an employee becomes pregnant, everyone knows how to connect her to lactation resources at the hospital.”
