CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: VERÓNICA GUILLOTY SÁNCHEZ

Sep 14, 2026

For more than eight years, Verónica Guilloty Sánchez, RN-BSN, has worked directly with pregnant and nursing women across Labor & Delivery, Maternity, Nursery, and Pediatrics, building a broad, hands-on understanding of what families need at every stage of the childbirth journey.

Since 2015, Verónica has been a pillar of support for mothers and infants at Bella Vista Hospital in Puerto Rico. As a Nurse Educator, she provides postpartum mothers with education and support in newborn care and breastfeeding during their hospital stay. In 2024, she took on a new challenge, stepping into the role of Team Leader for Bella Vista Hospital’s partnership with CHAMPS National.

That same year, Verónica became the first person in Puerto Rico to complete CHAMPS National’s Train-the-Trainer course, a program that equips nurse educators, lactation professionals, and other staff with the skills and knowledge to train other clinicians on CHAMPS National’s curriculum. This accomplishment extends her impact well beyond her own patients, helping ensure the next generation of hospital staff has the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality breastfeeding support.

Verónica finds the greatest reward in supporting mothers through their first postpartum days. For her, it’s the small moments that matter most: helping a new mother feel confident, answering her breastfeeding questions, and offering the comfort and skills families need to thrive.

Her message to others is simple: “By embracing and empowering breastfeeding, we promote healthier futures and improve maternal and infant health outcomes.”

CHEER is honored to spotlight Verónica Guilloty Sánchez for her years of hands-on care, her leadership in training fellow clinicians, and her commitment to breastfeeding families across Puerto Rico.
