CHEER CHAMPION OF THE WEEK: AMBER GRANITE, MPH, ILC, GPCE
Amber Granite, MPH, ILC, GPCE, has dedicated her career to supporting Hawaiʻi’s mothers, babies, and families through breastfeeding promotion, maternal and child nutrition, and culturally grounded care. As the WIC Program Supervisor at Waimānalo Health Center and an elected Director of the United States Breastfeeding Committee, Amber works to strengthen programs that improve the health and well-being of families while honoring the traditions and values of her community.
Amber’s work centers on building meaningful connections between WIC, Food Is Medicine initiatives, local agriculture, and community partnerships to make healthy food and breastfeeding support more accessible. She is committed to creating systems that help families thrive from pregnancy through early childhood, ensuring they have resources and support at every stage.
For Amber, serving the families of Waimānalo – where she, her father, and his six brothers were all raised – is the most rewarding part of her work. She feels a deep kuleana (responsibility) to give back to the community that shaped her family and takes pride in helping families grow stronger in health and cultural identity. Whether celebrating a mother who reaches her breastfeeding goals or hearing how families use WIC benefits to prepare the foods of their heritage, Amber sees each success as a shared victory.
She also values uniting healthcare providers, community organizations, and local partners to create lasting solutions that expand access to healthy food, breastfeeding support, and culturally grounded care. Seeing these collaborations blossom into meaningful community impact inspires her every day.
Amber’s message to families is one of encouragement and hope: “Your ancestors are proud of you and have given you all the tools you need to succeed. Believe in yourself, embrace your journey, and know that every small step you take to care for yourself and your ohana creates a healthier future for generations to come.”
Today, CHEER celebrates Amber Granite for her dedication to strengthening maternal and child health, advancing breastfeeding support, and uplifting Hawaiʻi’s families.
